GCS Students Place in Math Olympics

GCS Students place in Math OlympicsGREENWOOD, SC – Nine Greenwood Christian School students placed in the ACSI Regional Math Olympics hosted at Oconee Christian School Feb. 25. According to Tammy Wade, GCS Elementary Lead Teacher and math team coach, the competition includes two categories: Reasoning, which incorporates story problems into mathematical equations and Computation, which is working numerical problems. Jamie Urbanic, GCS Middle School math teacher is also a math team coach.

The following GCS Elementary School students received placement ribbons: Third Grade: Matthew Hanna – Reasoning 5th place; Fourth Grade: Elizabeth Hudgens – Reasoning 4th place; Elise Griffin – Computation 4th place; Fifth Grade: Luke Ergle – Reasoning 3rd place.

The following GCS Middle School students received placement ribbons: Sixth Grade: Cecilia McGinnis – Reasoning 2nd place; Sawyer Sorrow – Reasoning 4th place; Carolina Hinzman – Computation 4th place; Seventh Grade: Daniel Sanchez – Computation 2nd place; Keegan Smith – Computation 4th place.

GCS is an accredited member of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA). The non-denominational school, located at 2026 Woodlawn Rd. in Greenwood, SC, was established in 1992 and serves families from Abbeville, Greenwood, Laurens, McCormick and Saluda counties with a current enrollment of more than 310 students in K4 to 12th grade.
